In the past couple of weeks, we have been analyzing some of the possible causes and signs of abuses both in marriages and in relationships. Today we want to go a step further by providing you with tips on where to get help when you suspect or confirm that your partner is subjecting you to all kinds of abuses.
I like to state that the list on this website is not exhaustive, which means you can do some more research in order to add yours. You are also free to pass or share this information on various social media sites in order to help as many people as you can.
- Someone you trust: Usually it is important to run to someone you not only feel safe and secure with, but someone you can trust to pull you through you through what you are going through. Feel free to open up to the person as this is usually the first step to putting an end to relationship or marital abuses. I have heard so many times how people have been misled into thinking or believing that issues in marriages must be left private; well, not when it has to do with physical abuses.
- Government agencies: The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response team (DSVRT) is an initiative of the last Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola. If you live in Lagos, this is one of the best places to run to for help. They have experienced counselors to hear you out and offer useful tips on how to overcome the problem. The agency is backed by relevant laws in the state to help you out.
- NGOs: You can also get help from various Non Governmental Organizations NGOs across the country. I am sure there are loads of them out there that can offer you help. If you don’t have an idea on how to locate one, you can use Google to provide you with information.
- The Police: Well, I know some of you may frown at this, but the truth of the matter is that the Police is vastly experienced and relevant when it comes to dealing with matters that have to do with abuses in relationship.
- Clergymen: Are you a Christian or a Muslim? Then you can run to your Pastor or Imam to help you deal with such issues. I am sure some wise counsel from these individuals can help you sort things out.
The best way to deal with abuses in relationship is to ask for help. This is not a sign of weakness on your part, but a show of strength and character on your part.
