Tonight I sat alone listening to songs so deep they touched my soul.
And I cried.
Not from weakness.
From recognition.
There is no soft way to come back after years of silence.
So I won’t try.
I’ll just start talking — the way I always did — like we’re sitting across from each other at midnight, talking about life, love, mistakes, dreams, pain and all the things we pretend don’t bother us.
Because the truth is…
I went quiet.
But life didn’t.
And neither did I.
THE SILENCE
For years, Iyanda’s Diary was quiet.
Life happened.
Responsibilities happened.
Dreams changed.
Priorities changed.
And somewhere between trying to become who I thought I needed to be and dealing with everything life was throwing at me, I stopped writing.
But I never stopped feeling.
I never stopped observing people.
I never stopped asking questions.
I never stopped having those conversations in my head that used to eventually find their way onto these pages.
The writing stopped.
The voice didn’t.
It was simply waiting.
THE VOICE
But tonight — on my birthday — something shifted.
Maybe it was the music.
Maybe it was reflection.
Maybe it was getting older and finally understanding that we spend far too much of our lives waiting.
Waiting until things are perfect.
Waiting until we have enough money.
Waiting until the idea is fully formed.
Waiting until the website is ready.
Waiting until we feel ready.
And somewhere inside me, I heard something very clearly:
Stop waiting until it’s clean.
Write it broken.
That’s exactly what someone needs.
So here I am.
Back.
Not with all the answers.
Not polished.
Not perfect.
Just present — which is the hardest thing I’ve ever learned how to be.
THE LOSS
At some point, I lost Iyanda’s Diary.
Not metaphorically.
Literally.
The website was gone.
The Facebook page was gone.
Eventually, even the domain name was gone.
Years of writing.
Stories.
Questions.
Conversations.
Pieces of my life.
Gone.
Or so I thought.
And for a long time, I accepted it.
Maybe that chapter was over.
Maybe Iyanda’s Diary belonged to another version of me.
Maybe some things were simply not meant to come back.
But I have learned something about life:
Some things only come back when you are finally ready for them.
THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Then something happened.
A family member remembered the old posts.
That small reminder made me curious.
I started searching.
One thing led to another.
And then I searched for the domain I had lost years earlier.
Available.
I stared at that word.
After all these years.
Available.
The name that had once carried my thoughts, stories, questions and voice was sitting there waiting.
Maybe it was coincidence.
Maybe it wasn’t.
THE REALISATION
And suddenly I understood something.
I hadn’t simply been given a domain name back.
I had been given another chance.
Another chance to write.
Another chance to ask uncomfortable questions.
Another chance to tell stories.
Another chance to talk about the things we carry but rarely say aloud.
And another chance to create something that might reach somebody on a night when they desperately need to know:
You are not the only one.
The old Iyanda’s Diary was my journey.
The new Iyanda’s Diary carries the voice of someone who has lived a little more.
Lost a little more.
Learned a little more.
And still has questions.
Maybe even more questions than before.
THIS IS FOR YOU
This time, Iyanda’s Diary cannot just be about me.
It is for the person whose marriage looks perfect from the outside but feels completely different behind closed doors.
For the person surrounded by people and still feeling alone.
For the person questioning love.
Faith.
Family.
Purpose.
For the person starting again.
For the person carrying pain nobody knows about.
For the person celebrating a victory nobody understands because nobody knew about the battle.
For the person smiling in photographs while quietly falling apart.
For the person who has a question they are afraid to ask.
For the person who just needs somewhere to breathe.
Because sometimes we don’t need somebody to solve our problems.
Sometimes we simply need to know:
Someone, somewhere, understands.
That is what I want Iyanda’s Diary to become.
Giving words to the things we carry in silence.
And if one soul reads this and feels less alone —
every word was worth it.
THE RETURN
So what happens now?
We write.
We talk.
We remember.
We laugh.
We ask questions.
We tell stories.
Some will be mine.
Some will be yours.
Some may make us uncomfortable.
Some may make us laugh at ourselves.
Some may remind us of people we thought we had forgotten.
And some may simply make somebody somewhere feel seen.
I don’t need a party.
I need a purpose.
And perhaps after all these years, I finally understand what Iyanda’s Diary was supposed to be.
Not a place where one man has all the answers.
But a place where we are brave enough to ask the questions.
A place where real life is allowed to be real.
A place where we don’t always have to pretend that everything is fine.
A place where our stories can remind somebody else that theirs isn’t over.
So yes…
Iyanda’s Diary is back.
Not polished.
Not perfect.
Just present.
Welcome back to Iyanda’s Diary.
The story continues.
On this day, all I ask is that my words find whoever needs them most.
Website coming soon.
For now — I’m right here.
