One More Female Child And I Will Throw You Out Of This Marriage

The average Nigerian man only goes to school, but doesn’t act like someone who has been through the four walls of a university. He reads a lot but never understands or put into practice what he has gathered from burning the midnight candle. Every time there is a problem with the gender of the child, it is always the fault of the woman—what a life.

Marrying Kenneth was a dream come true or so I thought when our parents conducted a lavish wedding party for us in 2001. Our wedding was the talk of the town, especially as Kenneth was a lady’s man during his university days. I remember how I had to battle a couple of ladies before marrying him. Actually I thought I was going to have a tough time fending off other women from my husband because of his looks; but that was never to be. Kenneth has been faithful to our marriage; making sure we never lacked anything.

The problem in our marriage started after our third child, which happened to be a female. Kenneth loves children, but he doesn’t hide the fact that he prefers to have at least a mixture of both genders (male and female). I appreciate God for giving us children because there are thousands of people out there still looking for just one.

Ultimatum…

After giving birth to three daughters in 14 years, I am now pregnant with the fourth child; and my husband has given me an ultimatum. He has threatened to throw me out of his house if the pregnancy turns out to be a female child. I have been running a high BP since he issued that threat and I don’t know what to do. My friends asked me to go for a scan in order to ascertain the gender of the baby, but I am too scared of doing that because the last one I did gave me false hopes. The scan result showed that it was a male child only for me to deliver a female child.

I am living in fear because I don’t want my husband to throw me out. He shows less concern about my wellbeing, and says he won’t play his part as the father of the unborn child until the baby is born and turns out to be what he wants.

I am being emotionally traumatized by my husband. I know that my husband knows that the gender of a child is not determined by the woman. My pregnancy is just three months old, and I am already leaving in constant fear of the unknown. Someone even suggested that I should do a scan and if the result turns out to be a girl, I should quickly terminate it and tell Kenneth that I lost the pregnancy. Are we this heartless that the life of a girl child is not worth anything in our eyes anymore?

Please I need you guys to be praying for me because I don’t want to lose my perfect family.
