I used to think, and of course, almost everyone may have had the thought or still believe that a relationship that has stayed quite too long may survive forever or “till death do us part”.

Or wasn’t it psychologist who confirmed that friendship that could last up till 7 years possibly would last forever? Well that’s for friendship, I still feel like it could be same for a romantic relationship, just that there are more misunderstandings in romantic relationships than friendships.

Let me take you to the beginning for a clear understanding of my lost. At least you’ll also find out that I made my decisions based on what is generally accepted as what is right.

Mike was a hustlers, he was the kind of guy whose future is bright, who’s smart and intelligent. He was the kind of guy your mother would rather embarrass and try to make sure nothing happened between the two of you.

I was playing the good girl, the one that won’t go with a man with big television, the one who prefers a man with a vision.

Everyone was against our relationship, he was poor, but I knew he was promising. But my friends and family didn’t see that. They thought he was after my own money since I was a successful hair stylist then.

The relationship stood for quite a long time, he was the honest man I wanted. And gradually I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel as his dreams began to really actualise.

My family and friends who were against our relationship began to see the fruit of my patience, they began to come to their sense.

I was proud of Mike. He wasn’t promiscuous. Even when he began to really get into wealth, he had more respect for me, he answered to my calls, almost like since I was with him when he had nothing, then I deserved everything now.

In no time, he wanted to put the ring on my fingers. He proposed and I couldn’t but love Mike more. I just thought I’d have the most blissful marriage ever. I rested on the confidence that I’d endured, it was time to retrieve the fruits of my labour.

Soon, he had quite some rich friends that he’d always want to go out with every now and again. It didn’t bother me, as a matter of fact, I liked it.

But the whole scene played out right before me 2 weeks before my wedding. I caught the descent Mike in his house with a lady.

That wasn’t the tough part of it. He told me he wouldn’t be able to hide the truth anymore, he’d been like that all his life. He’d just been smart to hide it all from me all these years.

And I began to reminisce on so many event that happened long ago, he’d really been smart. Even when he had nothing, he was a player, imagine marrying him now that he’s rich, I’d regret it all my life.

Calling it quit was the only thing that would bring me peace of mind. Although I’d get hurt, but at the end, healing would come and I’d be good again.
