Searching for greener pastures. When you go to the United States or British or Canadian High Commission offices in Lagos and Abuja, the number of Nigerians seeking visas to leave the country will amaze you. Hundreds of thousands of people visit these embassies every day to seek for greener pastures as they always call it. The mad rush for the United States visa or British visa is always based on what most people believe; they believe that it is easier to make it outside Nigeria. The desperation is so real that many youths are prepared to part with hundreds of thousands of Naira to leave the country.
Having said that, the question is: why do most Nigerians think they can’t make it unless they find their way out of this country? Are things that bad that a Nigerian cannot make it unless he flies out of the country?
This has been the trend among the ever growing energetic youths in Nigeria, it may not surprise you to know that even someone who works and earns a good salary still feels he/she can get a better deal or a better life abroad.
Of course we know that things are a bit better down there in terms of economy and amenities, but are these enough reasons or excuses to believe that making it in Nigeria is a big ask? What about you; do you think you can’t make it without travelling out of the country?
