I Didn’t Do It; But No One Believes Me

There are many things we take for granted including failing to say amen to those little prayers beggars make each time we offer alms. Everyone considers me to be the black sheep of my family, and you can imagine what it feels like trying to convince everyone that you are not responsible for a particular action you are known to be notorious for.
Dear readers, I am the kind of guy who would not let the opportunity of taking something that does not belong to me pass me bye. The first person everyone turns to when money or some expensive items like jewelleries got missing is me. My passion for taking things that does not belong to me beats my imagination; and no matter how hard I tried stopping it, things never seem to work.
However, one thing I have never done all my life is stealing outside my home. My parents and family understands this because no one ever complained or accused me of this until I went to Ile Ife in Osun State to celebrate the last Easter Holiday. Uncle Adedayo, my father’s immediate younger brother knew about my history before he invited me to spend the Easter Holiday with him; and no wonder he is finding it difficult to believe I didn’t steal his wife’s jewelleries.
My uncle restricted my movement to certain rooms in his big apartment, and ensured that I was never allowed to touch certain things without his permission. These things didn’t bother me because I was already used to been treated that way even by my parents. However, his children were not treated that way because they could move to anywhere or any room they wanted to.
Meanwhile, I was counting down the days until the Easter Holiday would be over because I was getting frustrated by the whole arrangement. Luckily for me and my hosts, I was able to spend the entire three weeks without any scandal; or so I thought until a few days after I got back to Lagos.
My parents had quietly woken me up that Sunday morning to ask series of questions about what they thought I knew about some missing jewelleries that belong to my uncle’s wife. I was shocked, and suddenly tears started rolling down my cheeks. Deep within me I knew I didn’t take a single pin that didn’t belong to me during my stay in Ile Ife; but who would believe me?
The missing jewelleries have become a serious issue between my uncle and my parents; and everyone is threatening fire and brimstone. Dear readers, I didn’t steal those jewelleries; and I am prepared to go to any length to prove my innocence. The problem is that my parents are not the type to investigate things through mediums or traditional methods.
I didn’t do it; but no one believes me! Please I need your advice on what to do and how to clear my name.
