How Office Romance Got Me Packing From My Husband’s House

Not every one of us ever gets a second chance; and I am a typical example of how not to sin a little. Sin is sin whether you are caught the first time or not. It doesn’t even matter whether or not it’s your first time; once you are caught, you have to face the music.

My name is Emem, and never in my two years of being a married woman did it ever occur to me that my husband would send me out of his house as a result of adultery. While in school, I was not the type that got myself involved in double-dating. I never dated two men or guys the same time; I was always faithful to my guys. I was the type of girl any man would vouch for.

I got this job, a dream job actually before I married my husband. It was the kind of job a lot of people would do almost anything and everything to keep. I got the job specifically on merit, and by the grace of the almighty God. My joy knew no bound when I got a call that the position I applied for was mine.

As with other normal jobs, promotion is also done on merit. Once in a while employees are given appraisal forms where certain information has to be provided. This gives the employers opportunity to assess the performances of every employee. Sometimes a recommendation from your departmental head was all you need to get the promoted, and sometimes it could come in other ways. The bottom line is that evaluation and assessment of employees are carried out almost every year.

My immediate boss is the type that doesn’t easily forgive when someone offends him, and it is best not to fall into his trap than to have to plead for his forgiveness. I already knew about this weakness of his before I got the job. Someone had already told me to avoid crossing his part if I wanted rapid promotion and transfers to juicy departments. Based on this warning, I became very close to him so I could always get favour anytime I find myself in a fix since no one is perfect.

If I knew being too close to my immediate boss was going to be the end of my marriage, I would have minded my business. My closeness to Mr. Thomas came at a very high price because some of my female colleagues never took it lightly because it was one of them that reported me to my husband. On the other hand, I was a bit naive in my actions because I shouldn’t have taken my closeness to the level I took it. Can you imagine being caught in a hotel room with your boss?

That was what happened because I was caught with my boss in a hotel room by my husband. I thought I was due for promotion since some of the people that got employed the same time with me have been promoted and even transferred to different branches with jumbo salaries. I was desperate for promotion and jumbo salary, and this made me close my eyes to sound reasoning. I threw caution to the wind, and didn’t even hesitate when my boss started making passes at me. I jumped at the first invitation to go out on a lunch with him; and that was the only time I ever did.

After our lunch, it didn’t take long before my boss was able to convince me to pay for a room. We went to the room with intention to have a quick one, and before we could even do anything, we had a knock on the door. I told my boss not to open the door since I was a bit scared. The thought of women being caught with other men in hotel rooms filled my mind, and I just wanted to do it with my boss so we could return to the office. My boss thought differently, and opened the door only to find a man screaming at the top of his voice. Instantly I discovered it was my husband’s voice, and I had to bury my head in the pillow.

As soon as he saw me, his voice became weak, and he quietly walked away without saying any more word apart from the ones he said before seeing me. I knew that was the end; how do I even explain myself to my husband, his friends, family members, and even my family?

Today, I am no more in my husband’s house, and all attempts to have him forgive me keeps backfiring. Though, my boss didn’t lay his hand on me, but it will be foolish of me to use that as a plea when asking for my husband’s forgiveness.

Now I don’t even know who to turn to.
