Nigeria is a country where you have people of different tribes living together; but not always in harmony, especially when it comes to tribes. Yorubas and Ibos for instance, will always clutch at each other’s jugular to defend an opinion that is based in beliefs and culture. The issue is often based on superiority; with one tribe claiming or trying to put down the other for different reasons. The man from the east or the one from the west or from the north or from the south is always shouting at the top of his voice in order to be heard. Bringing us to the question: will tribalism ever become a thing of the past in Nigeria?
A situation where virtually everything we do is coloured with ethnicity and tribal sentiments, give cause for concern. Perhaps, we would have become greater than what we are at the moment, but our inability to put merit above tribal sentiments continues to hold us back as a people and a nation. How do you move a nation that eyes every political move being made by the government as partial?
Will Nigeria ever rise above tribalism and parochial interest?
