3 Children; 1 Father, And 1 Husband

Dear readers, I know my story would shock you to the marrow as soon as you are done reading it. However, I urge and plead with you not to judge or crucify me until you have truly digested the content of the story of my past few years.

I am married to a man who seems to love his job more than his family; a man who spends almost three or four days every week outside Lagos. Bayo is damn to busy; not even to check the children’s school books. Though, it was clear even before we got married that Bayo is not a man that spends most of his time at home. His business rarely gives him time. He would rather provide you with all the money in the world, than commit his time taking you and the children out.

Bayo was not the man I planned to marry, but my parents (my dad in particular) forced me to marry him. I was going out with Amos before Bayo came to ask for my hand in marriage. My plan was to settle down with Amos since he was the man of my dream. I never knew who Bayo was even though I knew his parents. I tried all I could to refuse him; but things just failed to work as planned for me since the pressure from my parents was just too much for me to bear.

Amos was my first love, and you can imagine how emotional things turned out to be few days to my wedding with Bayo. My parents too understood this, and that was why my movements within the area where we live were seriously restricted. I was placed under serious surveillance by my parents because they were afraid I could elope with Amos. Not that I planned to elope with my first love, but I actually dreamt of holding him at least for the last time before the wedding proper.

What I couldn’t achieve before the wedding, I was able to achieve the very first week that I got married to Bayo. My honeymoon with Bayo only lasted that weekend as he would fly out to Dublin for an urgent business assignment (according to him). I didn’t bargain for this kind of honeymoon where the groom would disappear just two days after our wedding. I wasn’t prepared to spend the entire week all alone; after all, Amos and I have not been able to say goodbye to each other.

I picked up my phone and gave him a call; wanting to know where he was so we could arrange to meet. Initially he told me bluntly that he wasn’t up for it since I am no longer a single woman. Moreover he reminded me of his strong Christian background that kicks against adultery and extra marital affairs. Of course, the thought of cheating on my husband was not on my mind, and all I wanted was to gist with Amos.

When he finally gave in to my pressure, we agreed to meet; but not in my matrimonial home. Amos and I met at a not so popular eatery very far from where anyone could easily identify us. We cleared up a lot of things, and we were also able to bid each other farewell eventually.

My husband did return from his business trip to Dublin that very week; only to leave for the same destination six days later. I was already finding this unbearable since it was far from what I bargained for.

I got tired of his frequent trips to different locations of the world; and decided to do things my own way. I was sex starved, and since Bayo was not prepared to carry out his duty as my husband; I was going to look for somebody to do that for me. I started seeing Amos as often as possible. We talked on phone, exchanged emails, and even chatted endlessly on the popular Yahoo! Messenger. I knew what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure if Amos knew of my intentions.

Gradually he started coming to my home, and things moved so fast that we started having sex. Though, I didn’t tell Amos; I got pregnant during those periods and all I just did was inform my husband of my condition.

My husband has not stopped his frequent journeys outside the country. Now it has been nine years since we got married with three kids; and not even one of those kids belong to Bayo.

I know I cannot justify my actions and that a lot of people out there would easily condemn me; but the thing is that my husband still doesn’t care. He only cares about his fat bank account. He only makes love to me just about two to three times every month; and of course, he does this without passion.

The question is; does Bayo really love me? Did his parents force him on me just like my parents did?
