I Thought I Deserved A Second Chance After All He Also Did To Me
Not everyone gets a second chance no doubt; but considering all the things Tolu did to me in the past; I thought I was due one as well. However, this is not to say I am trying to justify what I did; but at least a good turn they say also deserves another. The truth of the matter is that I have had to forgive and also given Tolu several second chances in the past; and I am sure there will be more if she ever forgives me just this once.
I am not the one to hurt a fly let alone breaking the heart of someone that means the world to me. I love Tolu so much; I could climb the highest mountains for her, and cross valleys if only to make her happy. The painful thing is that the opportunity to continue proving how much I love her is fast fading away because of the 5 minutes of madness that I allowed to happen to me.
I am the kind of guy that possesses a very short temper. I always react too sudden to any slight provocation even before knowing the exact cause of it. However, in my 3 years of dating Tolu; never for once did I raise my hand to hit her. She is so precious to me that I always wrap her in cotton wool to protect her.
Apart from being short-tempered; I am also naive especially when it has to do with Tolu. I tolerated a lot of things, and took too many things for granted even on occasions that required some manly reactions. I have lost count of times when I caught Tolu cheating on me or publicly messing me up. Time after time and after time I caught her red-handed, but I never struggled with thoughts of how to forgive her.
However, one of the dangers of not looking someone you love in the eyes and having a heart to heart chat whenever things go wrong is the possibility of a bottled up anger. Angers that have been left and bottled up for too long have a way of erupting like a volcano; and that was exactly what happened when I unleashed terror on Tolu and someone I thought she was cheating on me with.
To be fair to Tolu, I had caught her in more uncompromising situations than the one that is now threatening to separate the two of us. I didn’t know what came over me one Saturday evening when I saw Tolu some 3 streets away from mine with a guy I thought was her lover. I descended on the guy; beating him almost to the point of coma before forcefully dragging Tolu to a corner to interrogate her on what she was doing with the guy. For a couple of minutes or thereabout she was speechless; and was only able to shed tears until two guys came from nowhere to apprehend me.
I was taken to the police station where I was put behind bars for beating someone on the street. I later discovered from Tolu’s younger brother that the person I had beaten was actually a cousin of theirs. I had spent two days behind bars before my elder brother came to bail me out.
It has been 6 weeks since that incident occurred, and Tolu is still sticking to her decision not to have anything to do with me anymore. Ironically, I am now in good terms with her cousin, and even the family members have kind of forgiven me; but my love is yet to.
Dear readers of Iyanda’s diary I need your advice. How do I get Tolu to give me a second chance?
