Newly wedded couples are always advised to share their burdens and happiness together. They are encouraged to help each other and consider supporting each other in any circumstance that may arise during the course of their union. However, there are certain liabilities that may have been incurred while the two of them were still single and unmarried—debt for example is one of such liabilities. What would you do if you discovered that the person you just got married to has a huge debt hanging on her/his neck, which could also affect you? Will you help your spouse to settle any huge debt incurred before marriage?
Is it right to leave your partner to deal with debt incurred while he or she was still single? To what extent will you be willing to assist your partner to pay back a debt owed? Will you fold your hands and act as if it’s not your problem or would you help your partner to settle the debt?
So what would you do? What if you partner did not mention the debt issue to you before getting married; would you get mad because of that?
While some may say they won’t be bothered by such issues; it is also important to remind ourselves that anyone can be in debt at any point in time.
