Nigeria is one of very few countries of the world where leaders are recycled virtually every time there is a change in government or a change in cabinet. We seem to be having problems when it comes to raising new leaders. People we see today are the same people we have been seeing for years. When a new government comes to power, Nigerians no longer find it difficult to predict some of the names that will be on the cabinet list. Even the National Assembly is filled with people that have either been governors in their respective states in the past or held one or two political posts before.
Is it too difficult to find fresh blood within the system? Why do we keep recycling them? Does that mean we no longer have qualified people within the democratic or academic settings anymore? How can a country of about 200 million people not have qualified people who have never tasted government before appointed as ministers and commissioners? Is it a crime to appoint youths into different positions?
What we have as ministers and commissioners are same people that have held different positions in the past? What could be responsible for this?
