Why Do Low Income Earners Have More Kids Than They Can Provide For?

This topic is not aimed at bringing anyone down; but rather aimed at solving a mystery that has stood for a very long time. Why do low income earners (those who earn low salary or who barely can afford three meals a day without struggling throughout the month) have more kids than they can provide for?

The mentality of the low income earners is to have as many kids as possible without considering how they will be catered for. This looks like bringing children into the world just for the fun of it or is there a particular reason for that?

I see this everywhere I go in Lagos and in other states in Nigeria—it seems to be a general problem among our people. Why can’t people have the number of children they can realistically cater for? Is there a competition to have more kids? On the reverse, we have a situation where the rich and high income earners only give birth to a reasonable number of children. Sometimes you wonder how a man with so much wealth is only able to have just two or three kids; in other words, he doesn’t see the need to have them in abundance.
