Perhaps, not particular to Nigerian men alone because some African countries also have this issue too—why are men in this part of the world more particular about having a male child? Is there anything wrong in having a female child? As a matter of fact some men have had to take a second wife after trying a couple of times without having a male child. They easily blame their wives for not being able to bear them a male child, and subsequently start looking for a new woman to get married to.
Is it a part of the African tradition that a man must have a male child before he dies? Though, some have insisted that having a male child is necessary in order to continue to maintain the family name of the man; is this right? Should a man maltreat his wife or even female child for something she is absolutely not guilty of? As a man, would you criticise or maltreat your wife for giving birth to only female children? Of course, scientifically it is not the woman’s fault; but the African man won’t have any of that as an excuse.
