What Is The Cause Of The High Rate Of Child Rape In Nigeria Today?

The high rate of child rape in Nigeria is fast assuming an alarming proportion, with accusing fingers being pointed at every direction. Nigerians are worried; and rightly too, considering how the media is constantly reporting the issue virtually every other day. Online forums like Nairaland and Nigerbestforum are being bombarded on daily bases with posts about various rape and child molestation happening in our society. What could be the exact cause?

Parents are complaining about the threat being posed by predators to the children. Teachers are complaining about the rot in the system. Religious institutions too are not left out; as Christians and Muslims are urging the government to do something about it. However, a problem is half solved when the source is or has been identified. The source or sources must be identified first before preferring solutions. Having said that, what is responsible for the constant cases of rape in Nigeria?

Are parents not doing enough to bring up their children in the right way? Are we being exposed to too much of foreign movies?
