After Sixteen Years Of Marriage Not Once Did I Imagine Things Would Become This Bad
Marrying Frank used to be dream come true for me because he represented everything I always wanted in a man. I couldn’t have asked for a better person in my life when we came across each other for the first time at the NYSC orientation camp. We both had our different relationships back in school, but there was no question about what we wanted for each other. Things happened a bit quick and we were soon walking to the altar.
We were like siblings and hardly could anyone come between us until Victor, his cousin came back from Germany after spending the last 19 years there. Victor struck me as one of those guys that would command a lot of respect the first time I saw him. Of course I was right about what I thought about him, but that didn’t work in my favour. He is the type of guy everyone wants to listen to and the type that hardly anyone argues with. The truth is he has this look that is so convincing and hardly would you doubt any word he says because everyone trusts and believe him.
I don’t want to bore you with too many details about Victor’s qualities. However, he is the cause of the marital issues I have with Frank. I course the day I opened the door of our house to him. Perhaps, I should have been bold enough to say not to my husband the first time he suggested that we allow Victor move into our home rather than have him lodge in a hotel.
Now “Mr Perfect” has torn my home and my marriage apart because he saw me with an old classmate who was also an ex of mine while we were in school. Mba recently returned from the United States after so many years of being away, and invited me to shop with him at a popular Lagos mall where Victor saw both of us together. He never asked who Mba is nor did he confront me to ask what my relationship with him is. I was shocked when Frank rained all kinds of insults on me the moment I got home.
Frank didn’t listen to me and didn’t even believe me despite sixteen years of being his wife. I thought love believes all, trusts all, and endures all; why is mine different? I thought only women could do what my husband’s cousin did? What have I got myself into?
I have not packed out of the house yet, but Frank is short of asking me to because we no longer share the same bed and things are no longer the way they were.
Can I still have my husband back? What should I do to redeem my badly battered image? Mba has made all efforts to have a chat with my husband but all to no avail; and now he is asking me to pack out of my matrimonial home and come and live with him.
What should I do now because I am confused?
