Is It Right For Government Officials To Always Fly Abroad For Medical Treatment?

Our government officials will not cease to amaze me—they always have a way of doing things that make me wonder if we will ever get it right in this country. Is it right for officials of government to always travel abroad for medical checkups or treatments?

The last time it was an ex governor from one of the South-south states of Nigeria. He deemed it inappropriate to get medical help here in Nigeria after he was involved in a minor accident. After investing billions of Naira on a medical facility in his state while in power, one would have thought that he would head straight to that same place to get himself treated—but that was not the case as he headed straight to a foreign hospital to get treatment. Nigerians cried and kicked against this act of waste and called for a change in attitude among officials.

However, that was not the first time, and it might not be the last; but for how long shall we as a nation continue to fly out to Germany, Britain and the US for medical checkups and other minor treatments?
