Are Nigerian Youths Being Politically Marginalized?

Make no mistake about that headline—Nigerian youths are being seriously marginalized in terms of juicy political appointments and having a shot at the presidency. The old brigades seem to be clinging on to power and are by no means showing any sign of letting go. The current president of the country is already above 70, and is deputy is not below 50; so is it a crime to have a younger person in any of the two positions? I don’t think so because the constitution never said so and we also haven’t heard in any gathering that it is a taboo for the youths to attain the highest office in the land.

Are Nigerian youths being politically marginalized? Some old brigade politicians would say no since they always want to keep the youths oppressed and under their tutelage forever. Are the youths even doing enough to get to the forefront of politics in the country? Some would argue that youths are being elected into different houses of assembly across the states of the federation; but is it a crime to aspire higher than that? Why are the politicians more contented with leaving Nigerian youths with the crumbs that fall off their table?
