I quite appreciate how important it is for one to mind his business. However, there are some issues that just can’t be ignored. If you have a neighbour who has been reduced into a punching bag by her husband, then you just have to wonder why things happen that way.
I have been watching and observing this my neighbour for years. Tonia is never happy and always in a pensive mood. Why won’t she when no week ever passes by without being on the receiving end of some punches from her husband.
Tonia is the nicest woman I have ever come across all my life. When I moved into the neighbourhood, little did I know she was married and with kids. She treats everyone she comes across with respect. I got to know about her marital situation when one morning I heard some loud shouts from few buildings away. Being a new tenant in the neighbourhood, little did I know that this has been going on for years. On further enquiries, I was told that her husband beats her virtually every other week. From observations, I discovered that this happens all the time.
My question now is, why are some pretty and very nice ladies always unlucky when it comes to the kind of men they settle down with? Tonia and her supposed husband don’t even match one bit—the lady is miles apart from him in terms of beauty and class. Can’t she just pack her things and leave the man alone instead of being at the receiving end of some heartless beating?
I know other women, especially in Nigeria and other African countries are going through similar agonies. So why are they acting as if they are stuck in such relationships and won’t or refuse to get out?
