Every February 14 is marked or celebrated by billions of people all over the world who have come to identify the day as the only period where they can show love and be loved in return by their lovers. It is also a day where people elevate love to the highest height. However, critics of the St. Valentine’s Day have not only condemned the date; they have also questioned the way it is being celebrated.
The truth is a lot of people are making a mess of the idea behind it, which seems to be an opportunity to elevate and share love with others. These days even kids in nursery and primary schools are compelled to wear red or touch of red to schools, while others who barely can define what the day stand for are forced to accept to go out on a date or buy a gift for friends, colleagues and many more.
Perhaps, the most bizarre of the reasons why people celebrate St. Valentine’s Day is how hotels and chalets are booked to the brim, with ‘lovers’ meeting in private rooms to ‘feel cool’ (if you know what I mean). A lot of people on the streets have even tagged it a special day of committing all kinds of sexual atrocities and immoralities.
To this end, the question for today is: is St. Valentine’s Day being blown out of proportion?
