She Went To See My Mum Without My Consent—Is It Right?

Some girls don’t just get it; I mean do you have to go the extra length to force a man to propose?

I am losing my cool as I type this because Matilda thinks she is smart and can cajole me into taking a decision I am not ready to take right now—what is this world turning into?

The truth is we have been dating for about a year now, and while I admit that time is not on her side; her recent attitude only portrays her as being desperate. Marriage for me is not about how old you are, but how prepared you are. It is about two partners being emotionally and financially ready to settle down and start living as one. It has to be both parties saying yes or else it won’t work.

Of course, I have a good and stable job as well as income, but it still doesn’t make me ready. I am still running my masters programme and likewise Matilda. She is on the verge of completing her PGD, and has only a few months left to wrap things up.

The other my mum called me and you know how mothers behave when they feel you are matured enough to come home with the right woman to marry. I went to see my parents and they started telling me how a lovely lady came to pay them a visit and how she was nice to everyone.

Matilda has the contact number of my younger sister who by the way is married, so it was easy for her to gain access to my parents through her; but that was an abuse of privilege. Of course, my sister wasn’t happy that Matilda went to see my parents without my consent, but she is excusing her actions for desperation, and asking me to show understanding.

I feel frustrated and it’s like this lady is trying to force my hands into marriage. Don’t get me wrong, I love Matilda, but what she did has lowered her ratings in my heart. I had very good and genuine intentions towards her, and she is (maybe was) the woman I intend (intended) to get married to, but now I feel livid and feel like she has taken one step too many.

I feel frustrated and don’t want to take a decision that I would regret later in life. I also don’t want anyone to label me a heartless “timewaster” of a guy because of what I might do; but I am most certainly in a crossroad.

Please advise me…
