What we all like about a new relationship is that it gives us new hope, and helps us to be happy, especially after recovering from a painful breakup. However, a new relationship can and will create anxious moments because you are filled with all kinds of uncertainties—you don’t know when it’s the best time to dip both feet into the water after what you have been through in your last relationship.
- Refuse all dirty labels: The temptation to accept all kinds of dirty labels especially when it has to do with failings in past relationship is always a possibility in a new relationship. The truth about being a new relationship is that it’s a fresh start and should be treated that way. While it is a wise idea to take along with you some experiences of the past; it is not an ideal situation to let your mind be labelled with dirty tags of the past. You are not a failure, regardless of how many heartbreaks and mistakes you have made in the past.
- Don’t move too fast: The tendency to move too fast and seal the new relationship is always a big problem; be sure to take things slow and steady. Be sure he/she is the right one for you and don’t be in such a hurry to showcase your partner to friends and family.
- Manage your time wisely: Be wise when investing your time in a new relationship. You don’t want to invest all your precious time in a new relationship to the detriment of other vital things you need to do. That’s the reason why a lot of people suffer after breakup—they let too many other hobbies die a slow death because they committed all their time and energy to their last relationship.
- Don’t base your relationship on texting and chatting alone: While it is understandable that you want to play it safe by not committing all to your new relationship; it is important to know that you and your new partner won’t get to know each other well by just spending more time chatting on WhatsApp, BBM and the likes. So spend more time chatting face-to-face instead of on your favourite chat apps.
- Be true to yourself: Be true to yourself and stop living in a fool’s paradise. If a relationship starts showing those danger signs; then there is no point telling yourself “it’s just the pains of the past trying to spoil your fun.
